$\sqrt{\frac{x}{y} + 4} + 3$

Note: the above equations both read OK in CAR, but the end of the square root was not distinguished. Lets try something else…

$\sqrt{(\frac{x}{y} + 4)} + 3 + 5$

$\sqrt{\frac{x}{y} + 4} + 3 + 5$

There *is* a pause after the square root is over (ie after “plus four”) and before the next addend. Notice the lack of pause between “plus 3 plus 5”. Is this enough to justify no parentheses?
